The iconic Airstream caravan was the inspiration of Hawley Bowlus, the American designer who penned Lindbergh’s divine ‘Spirit of St Louis’ aeroplane which made the first nonstop flight from New York to Paris.
The Airstream’s distinctive un-painted, polished aluminium sausage-shape has come to symbolise the ‘American Dream’, becoming increasingly popular with all manner of mobile burger bars and trendy pop-up shops. There is no limit to the uses that these gorgeous trailers can be put.
One of two in the sale today, they are both about 18'6" long (plus drawbar) and date from the early 1950s. The vendor describes this one as a sound and solid blank canvas, adding that it will require a thorough recommissioning to the brakes, tyres and tow-hitch before it can be used on the road.
AMENDMENT - this lot will be sold inclusive of VAT.
