Introduced way back in 1970, the Range Rover was so fundamentally 'right' from the outset that it remained in production virtually unaltered for the next 25 years, getting a little bit more luxurious with each passing year.

Designed by Spen King, the bodywork was not substantially redesigned until the second generation model of 1995, which also gained air suspension in place of the original coil-springs. As familiar a part of the British street scene as the red pillar box, all versions are hugely capable machines that are equally at home on the motorway or the school run as they are clambering to the top of a mountain.

This 1993 3.9-litre Range Rover has been owned by the vendor since early 2013 and has been used and improved since purchase. It has a glassfibre bonnet and lower tailgate and the rear windows have been tinted. It was specified with leather upholstery when new, and has covered some 126,000 miles to date. At some point it has been upgraded with an LPG system which includes a 100-litre tank, giving it a decent range between fills. It is due to have a fresh MOT by the time of the sale.

There is a towbar and electrics, the vendor informing us that it runs and drives well, with even the heated screen working as it should.

These late model classics are great machines to have at hand, comfortable, powerful and with a 3 ½ tonne towing capacity. Couple that with the price of LPG these days and this old girl starts to make rather a lot of sense.
