In 1919 Gordon Francis, son of the maker of Lea-Francis cycles, motor bikes and cars joined his in-laws, the Barnetts, to produce lightweight motorcycles.
They soon produced their 'Built like a Bridge' triangulated tubular frame which was guaranteed 'for ever' and the reputation thus earned saw them through the depression years when so many of their competitors failed.
Their bikes were almost all small two-strokes and in 1933 they brought out their first Cruiser. With 250cc and all enclosed leg-guards it enabled the would-be City gent to arrive immaculate at the office and was very popular. The Cruiser name was revived post-war, sadly no longer enclosed, the model on sale today being one of the last built and fitted with an AMC designed 249cc engine.
This nicely presented lightweight has seen some action over the last few years, having covered 2,800 miles since 2011. Its current MOT expires in May 2015 and it looks like an ideal, if outmoded economical classic commuter, much as it was when originally delivered!
