The Bantam came in 6 basic varieties, the D1 – the original plunger frame green coloured machine, the D3 with its engine boosted to 150ccs, the D5 with an extra 25ccs on top of that, the D7 with larger brakes, D10 and the final version the D14/4 with 4 speeds.
Favoured by the post office in the 1960s, the Bantam was a very familiar sight on the roads of Britain buzzing along leaving a faint blue haze from its robust 2-stroke engine. During its production run, over 300,000 left the Smallheath factory, the last of the line D14/4s being very different machines to the original 125cc DKW design.
This 1965 175cc D7 Bantam has had four previous owners according to the V5. A well presented machine, it was last used on the road back in 2008 and will require a light recommissioning before use.
