Thirty years into its production run, Rover’s pint-sized Mini needed a shot in the arm to keep it at the top of the shopping-list.
The solution came from the marketing department, who devised a whole raft of special editions which were extremely successful. The reintroduction of the Cooper brand completed the picture, Issigonis’ masterpiece gaining a second-wind until well beyond its 40th Birthday.
The clever part was that the changes incorporated were really quite minor – mainly confined to special paint finishes, fancy material on the seats and in some cases alloy wheels. The Tahiti got all of these, plus chrome bumpers and a posh radio. It did the trick, the first owner of this car paying £6,099 all in for her new Tahiti which was ordered through MGM Rover in Bridgend in 1993.
Used sparingly ever since, the car has only clocked up 16,850 miles to date, backed up by a file of old MOTs. It retains the original handbook pack which includes the service book with two stamps and the original purchase invoice. Reported to run and drive as one would expect of such a low mileage car, its current MOT expires shortly after the sale so it can be driven away on the day.
Always kept under cover, this super low mileage Mini really has had just 'one careful lady owner' and will make the perfect first car, or could perhaps be profitably mothballed as a potential investment.
