First appearing as the CF50 in July 1972, the CF range was the ‘ladies’ version of the ST DAX monkey bike, differing in having a step-thru back bone frame rather than the ST type high beam frame.
The CF70 or ‘Chaly’ as it was called in Europe came later when the engine size was enlarged to match that of the ST70 DAX, this being a 68cc 5.5bhp two-valve OHC four-stroke unit. The CF70 shared the 10-inch wheels of the ST range and many other components, the main difference being the chassis which was lower and more lady friendly, also proving handy in the Asian markets thanks to its extra carrying capacity for the trip to the market. Although Honda stopped producing the ST range about 15 years ago, the Chinese have continued to make a copy, renamed from Chaly to Charly, presumably to circumvent a trade mark issue.
This CF70 was first registered in March 1982 and was donated to the Stondon Museum in 1998, according to correspondence in the document file. Presented in original, unrestored condition, it is accompanied with a current V5C, photocopy handbook and expired MOTs.
