Triumph revitalised its classic TR range in 1968 and introduced the Karmann-styled TR6. Sharp, clean and fresh, the TR6 sported a more aggressive body with revised front and rear end styling although the centre section remained the same as the TR4 and TR5.

For the UK market, the straight-six fuel-injected 150bhp 2,498cc engine also carried over from the previous TR5 model, although from 1973 it was changed for a milder 125bhp unit to meet stricter emissions regulations. In full-fat 150bhp form it could sprint to 60mph in 8.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 120mph.

Widely regarded as the last of the proper TRs, it had potent front disc brakes, independent front suspension and a very sporting ride. Inside was a very pleasant place to sit with pile carpets on floors and boot, plush-looking bucket seats, a lovely wooden dashboard and a full complement of instrumentation. A huge sales success, more than 94,000 TR6s were built (ninety percent of them to detuned US specifications), before it was replaced by the much softer TR7 in 1975.

This fine, UK supplied 1972 specimen carries the ‘CP’ chassis number prefix which confirms it has the full-power 150bhp engine. Purchased by the vendor in 2002 from the London area through an advertisement in Classic Car Weekly, it had just had a full body-off restoration, photographs of which are on file.

Used sparingly since, the vendor has fitted Cobra seats with four-point belts which he prefers, although has retained the originals which are included in the sale. He has also recently added five new tyres, a new hood, a sweet-sounding stainless steel exhaust and most significantly, a Rimmer Brothers exchange engine within the last 1,500 miles. He reports that the overdrive works on 2nd, 3rd and top gears and that it runs and drives very nicely.

The file of documentation contains a parts book, various bills and five old MOTs, its most recent test remaining current until April 2016. It also has a period hard top which is included in the sale, although bidders are advised that this will need to be collected by the new owner from the vendor's house in mid-Wales.

Beautifully presented in dark blue, this very smart example is only being sold due to lack of use and too many other distractions in the garage.
