Undoubtedly the most eagerly anticipated Jaguar sports car since the launch of the show-stopping E-Type in 1961, the magnificent F-Type fully lived up to expectations when it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September 2012.

Compact, sharp-edged and oh so aggressive, it had an animal stare from its headlight eyes and predatory air-intakes up front that looked ready to devour anything in its path. Featuring Jaguar’s industry-leading knowledge of all-aluminium construction it was not only 10% stiffer than the outgoing XKR-S but lower and lighter too with short overhangs and perfect weight distribution for lightning fast responses.

Allied to the quickest steering ever fitted to any Jaguar and a limited slip diff, it also had an outstanding ‘intelligent’ eight-speed Quickshift automatic gearbox with a SportShift manual mode which adapted to the driver’s inputs, holding the gears for longer when really pressing on and even knowing when it was cornering so it would hold the correct gear for the bend and only change up for a burst of acceleration on the exit.

Topping it off was an electric soft-top that lowered in just 12 seconds and could be operated at speeds up to 30mph, with multiple layers of fabric for better thermal and sound insulation.

A choice of engines were offered from a 335bhp 3-litre V6 to a 567bhp 5-litre V8 but best of the lot for its blend of performance and economy was the supercharged 3-litre V6 of the V6S (as here). Producing 375bhp and 339lb/ft, it could scorch to 60 in just 4.8 seconds on its way to an electronically limited 171mph top speed with up to 35mpg economy.

All to a spine tingling noise from the active exhaust system (with opening valves to enhance the sound and the breathing when tanking on, but keep it acceptably quiet when pottering around the lanes) with a banshee howl on upshifts and pops and crackles on down shifts.

Universally praised at launch and blessed with race car handling, the F-Type has become a flagship model for Jaguar, punching a big hole in sales of rival German and Italian makes and being voted ‘Best Open Top Car’ by the judges of the 2014 UK Car of The Year awards.

This particular V6 S has had just one owner from new and has covered a mere 3,500 miles to date. On top of the £55,275 basic list price it has nearly £19,000 of extras which include: Italian Racing Red paint; heated sports seats with memory pack; heated front windscreen and timer; garage door opener; smart key entry; premium carpet mats; adaptive headlights including cornering lamps; illuminated tread plates; 180 watt sound system; 3-spoke leather steering wheel with ignis paddles; parking sensors; dark hex aluminium centre console; wind deflector; 19” Propeller alloys; exterior design pack and luggage set – all of which bought the total price up to £73,984 in May 2013.

Said to be in “as new” condition throughout, it already has one service stamp in the book and is due to have a second service immediately prior to the sale. Only being sold due to lack of use and an urge to own a much older classic, this stunning modern sportscar is guaranteed to put a big smile on the face of its lucky new owner every time they roll back the garage doors – and to draw a yelp of joy whenever they hit the loud pedal!
