One of two Ariels in our sale today, this machine was acquired as a project and was going to be converted into a Café Racer.
Entered as a rolling chassis with engine and gearbox, it is thought to be about 70% complete and is pretty much what you can see in the pictures on our website, with a separate box containing the crankshaft and pistons which are held for inspection in our store.
There is no paperwork with this machine but all Ariel leaders and Arrows left the factory with the same engine number as the chassis number. This project bears the engine number T-15971-S which will aid the registration process with the relevant DVLA form.
This project has been entered by the same vendor as the Ariel Leader 250 (Lot 207) who is clearing his workshop ready for new motorcycle projects. He has decided that now he is in his mid-seventies it is about time he became a trials rider! Whether or not the new owner of this machine decides to pursue the vendor’s Café Racer vision is entirely up to them, but whichever way you look at it, this is a good opportunity to get yourself acquainted with one of the most innovative motorcycles designs of the 1950s.
