THIS BIKE HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN

Not to be confused with a run of the mill Sportster, the name of their new bike, the Sportster Sport confused just about everyone when unveiled in Harley’s ’98 model-year line-up.

The main area of difference was with the engine. The regular 1,200cc unit from the Sportster formed the basis for the Buell engines, but unlike Harley’s big cruiser units, power delivery for Buell’s range of sports-bikes was top of the agenda. A number of Buell’s tuning developments trickled back onto the new Sportster Sport, resulting in 15% more torque and a fistful of extra horse-power, thanks to the sophisticated twin-plug head, increased compression ratio to 10:1 and the electronic ignition which fired four coils at the optimal time depending on temperature, load and engine revs. A hotter cam and easy breathing exhausts helped too, Harley adding a styling package to the engine, seats and wheels so your neighbour could see that you had spent the extra money.

Twin calipers at the front gave confident stopping and a rev counter was fitted as standard so you could see, as well as hear, how fast the big twin was churning. At the time it was Harley Davidson’s fastest bike, taking just 13.4 seconds to cover the standing ¼ with a terminal speed of 95mph.

The vendor confirms that his Sportster Sport has been serviced by the Harley Davidson network and has covered just 9,600 miles over the last 17 years. It remains in excellent condition and is MOTd until March 2016 so is ready for its new owner to blast about on this summer. Having covered so few miles from new, it is barely run in yet so the new owner will still enjoy the full fat Sportster Sport experience.
