According to Saab, the first generation Saab 9-3 incorporated over 1,100 improvements over its preceding model, the Saab 900.

With the prodigious power outputs of their turbo-charged engines, the upgrades to the front suspension geometry were the most welcome, making these solid and well-built machines more than capable of handling their power.

That power also came with responsibility – as one would expect from Saab. One of just 3 cars to obtain a full score in the Euro NCAP rating, the 9-3 incorporated side airbags, side impact bags and passed the gruelling pole test whereby a car was subjected to a simulated impact on its flanks from a telegraph pole. Typical Saab in many respects, it retained the centrally mounted key start and the rather nice Saab ‘Night Panel’, whereby all interior lights can be doused at the touch of a button, leaving the driver with just the essential information, a practice carried over from Saab’s aircraft manufacture.

This 1999 SE convertible automatic was delivered in dark blue with Barley leather upholstery. It has the B204E engine which develops a useful 154bhp, the emphasis being more on low speed torque delivery than outright bhp. It has had two previous owners and comes with a very comprehensive service history which confirms its 86,000 miles to be genuine along with a full set of old MOTs. The current ticket expires in March 2016.

This SE comes with a multi-stack CD player, electric hood and climate control, as well as new tyres on its recently refurbished alloy wheels. Described by the vendor as in lovely condition, it can be purchased outright for less than the annual depreciation on a newer model.
