One of the truly remarkable things about the MGB is their phenomenal survival rate. Made in significant numbers for very nearly 20 years, over 520,000 found homes before production finaly ceased in 1980.

One of the overriding reasons for their continued popularity, apart from their good looks and strong performance is the fantastic supply of spare parts. A large number of specialists can supply quite literally any component, with a range of upgrades available too including engines of up to 250bhp!

This lovely dark blue 1968 example has seen a great deal of attention over the last five years. A complete strip of the shell to see the extent of the work required was followed by careful repair and a bare shell respray inside and out. It retains its original alloy bonnet and new weather seals were fitted throughout during the bodyshell's careful build-up. It was then given a comprehensive waxoiling with stone-guard applied to the underside.

The engine came in for the same level of attention, including a rebore, new pistons and rings, big ends, main bearings and camshaft bearings. The head was fitted with ‘stage 2’ valves and unleaded valve inserts and the old paper filter was upgraded to a spin-off type with braided hoses to the oil cooler. The engine was topped off with a smart alloy rocker cover and a stainless steel exhaust system and manifold were fitted front to back.

While the engine was out, a new clutch assembly and prop shaft bearings were fitted and the rear axle, gearbox and overdrive given a thorough checking over.

During reconstruction, a new wiring loom was installed, along with an alternator conversion, new fuel pump, nice period fog lamps and a pair of the correct type 6-volt batteries.

All of the interior trim was renewed, including leather faced seats, fresh carpets and inertia real seatbelts, while by now it will probably come as no surprise to learn that the suspension was completely overhauled too, including a new steering rack, front and rear road springs, shock absorbers, bushes and all new brakes including a confidence boosting brake servo.

The hood remains unused and the car comes complete with a tonneau cover, new wheel hammer, Moto-Lita steering wheel and a replacement stainless fuel tank….wow what a list!

MOTd until April 2016, it is tax exempt and looks just as one would expect after such a comprehensive restoration, sitting most purposefully on its dark blue colour-coded wire wheels which are fitted with stainless spokes.

Available for what must be a fraction of its restoration costs, the vendor of this car appears to have left no boxes ‘unticked’.
