The Triumph TR6 comes from a long line of lusty front engine British sports cars that started with the TR2 and gradually evolved into the brief diamond that was the TR5.

Restyled for 1969 by Karmann of Osnabruck, the TR6 gained a full-width nose and a squared-off tail. Under the new skin, the chassis remained basically the same as its independently-rear-suspended TR5 predecessor, while the 2.5-litre Lucas fuel-injected straight six power unit was unchanged. Initially it produced 150bhp but was restricted to 124bhp from 1973 onwards.

Handling of the TR6 was improved over that of the TR5, courtesy of wider wheels and a front anti-roll bar. Good for 120mph with acceleration to match, the six-cylinder TRs are arguably the most exciting Triumphs ever made, continuing to enjoy an enthusiastic following world-wide and an excellent network of spare parts and service providers.

As with the white Triumph Stag elsewhere in this catalogue, the TR6 offered here comes from the estate of Colin Cooke of Withington, the technical boffin who maintained all the machinery at nearby Wyevale Hawkins Nurseries. This TR6 was to be Colin’s next project and what a project it is!

Thought to be mostly complete the bonnet is the most obvious missing item. It has a CP chassis number which means it was originally equipped with the full 150bhp engine and was first registered in November 1972 so is road fund tax exempt. It has five former keepers on the V5 logbook and was acquired by Colin way back in 1986. It is finished in Royal Blue which is one of the most popular colours and comes with a set of period slot mag wheels.

This is the ideal project for the restorer who wants to know that he has completely restored every part of his car. Top quality TR6 models are now changing hands for over £25,000 and the supply of projects is drying up. A lot of work will undoubtedly be required to get this one back on the road but the enjoyment it brings to the new owner will be all the more because of it.
