The successor to the legendary pre-war Topolino, the Nuova 500 was Fiat’s most famous people’s car.

Nippy and frugal with wonderfully direct steering, it was powered by a rear-mounted 18bhp 499cc engine that drove the rear wheels and could launch it 60mph in as many seconds before it ran out of steam. A four-speed gearbox with a floor-mounted gear lever was precise and fun to use and the car featured all-round independent suspension.

This gorgeous 500F is said by the vendor to date from 1968 and looks wonderful in beige with a light tan interior. Displaying an unwarranted 28,656km on the clock (17,800 miles) it appears to be in very nice condition throughout and was reputedly renovated to original specification in its native Italy. Said to drive very well with an MOT until December 2015 (with no advisories recorded), it certainly scooted along with gusto as we nipped around the Brightwells site in order to take these pictures.

Recently imported from Italy, it comes with sundry Italian paperwork and will be straightforward to register here with the relevant forms as it has come from within the EU will not be due any import taxes. Catalogue Amendment: NOVA document to follow. We will retain all documents we have on file and send on the remaining paperwork when the NOVA is received.
