The ‘J’ range of Lambretta scooters ran from 1964 to 1971 and was an attempt by Lambretta to produce a smaller, neater, cheaper to manufacture scooter to keep the firm's product to the fore in a declining market.

Rising affluence in Europe in the 1960s had seen the demand for scooters decline as small cars like the Mini (of which there was an Italian Innocenti version) and the Fiat 500 eroded the small bike market. Offered in J50, J100 and J125 versions, the Jetstream range of scooters (hence the ‘J’) were a lighter, cheaper alternative to the to the full sized Li, SX , TV, and GT models, still retaining the classic Lambretta silhouette .

The J50 was a 50cc powered lightweight housed in a steel monocoque chassis. It featured an upright cylinder engine producing 1.47hp which gave it a top speed of just 25mph. Never officially imported into the UK (although three models were sent for evaluation), it was initially produced as a three-speed machine but it's lowly power output was helped somewhat in 1966 when the gearbox gained an extra ratio which improved performance and rideability but did nothing to increase the top speed.

This 1966 Lambretta J50 is the baby of the Jetstream range and has only recently been imported from Italy. It appears to be in excellent cosmetic condition and comes with Italian documentation so should be straightforward to register for UK use with the appropriate DVLA form. As it comes from within the EU, no customs duties are payable. Catalogue Amendment: NOVA document to follow. We will retain all documents we have on file and send on the remaining paperwork when the NOVA is received.
