Lambretta first called upon the designer and aeronautical engineer Corradino D'ascanio in 1946 to produce the designs for the new Lambretta scooter range but it was not until 1947 that they went into production.

A stylish naked design with pillion seat, it was designed with an open spar frame so that it could be ridden with equal ease by both men and women. Leg shields provided protection from the dust and dirt of post war roads and the open frame design created useful areas for storage.

The first Model A was followed by successive B and C models before the faired-in version we are more familiar with was launched in 1950. Called the LC, some 42,500 were produced before the C range was replaced in 1953 with the un-panelled D and more familiar panelled LD model. Two variants of the LD were produced, the LDA and the LDB, in both 125cc and 150cc versions.

This 1954 machine is an early version of the 125cc engine model LD. Recently imported from Italy and resplendent in two tone red/white paintwork, it features a neat ‘scootboot’ rear storage box beneath the spare wheel which was a period accessory much desired by the scooter fraternity.

Appearing to be in superb condition throughout, it has not yet been UK registered but this should be a straightforward process with the relevant DVLA form. As the machine has come from within the EU, no import duties are payable. Catalogue Amendment: NOVA document to follow.
