The W170-platform SLK230 Kompressor was introduced in 1997 to compete with the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z3.
Setting it apart was the ingenious folding electric hardtop, the balletic operation of which never ceases to delight onlookers. It wasn’t just about posing either – under the bonnet lurked a seriously pokey 2.3-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine that produced a meaty 193bhp. Allied to a five-speed automatic transmission, it endowed the car with a 0-60 time of just 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 149mph.
This 1998 example has covered 87,200 miles from new and comes with its original handbook and service book which has six stamps, five of which are from a main, franchised dealer. It has had four previous owners and is MOTd until October 2015.
Ready for immediate use, it will make fine transport in the summer months ahead. These SLKs really are fantastic cars to drive and this black example with black leather upholstery makes a refreshing change from the default Mercedes silver and grey colour combination. A quality car that will satisfy any press-on driver, it looks great value at the modest guide price suggested.
