That the Mini survived in production for over 40 years should not come as a surprise to anyone. Such was the brilliance of the original design that concepts introduced at its launch still form the basis for most small cars today.

Continually developed throughout its life, it received many incremental improvements such as wind up windows, concealed door hinges and larger doors in the MkIII of 1969, a reversion to rubber cone suspension on the MkIV of 1976, front disc brakes on the MkV of 1984 and fuel-injection on the MkVI of 1990.

It was largely assumed that the Mini would cease production after the introduction of the Mini-Metro in 1980, however it soldiered on until 2000 supported by the Cooper models and a range of special editions which kept interest alive in the product.

This particular Rover Mini 1.3i features the more efficient multipoint fuel-injected 1,275cc engine that was introduced in 1991. Retailing at £8,999, it was supplied new via Edwards of Stratford and was first registered in March 2000. Presumably used as a showroom exhibit for the next few years, a purchase invoice shows that by April 2004 it had moved to Cutts of Camden where it was bought by a Mr Porter, still with only 363 miles on the clock, for the sum of £5,995. Porter was to keep the car until 2011, by which time it had 1,947 miles on the clock, recording every outing in a notebook in the history file.

The vendor acquired the car in 2012 to join his private collection and it has been garaged ever since with just the odd trip out to keep everything running smoothly. Now with the grand total of 2,500 miles under its wheels, it remains in superb condition throughout. Said to drive as well as you would expect from such a low mileage Mini, it is MOTd until October with no advisories recorded.

Supplied with all its original handbooks, still in the original wallet, it also comes with virtually all its old tax discs and a print-out of the past MOT history to warrant the mileage.
