Land Rover made a series of bold statements in their Range Rover brochure of 1971 - “The most versatile car in the world” and “Roughing it in luxury” are two that spring to mind, both entirely accurate as it turned out.
More prophetic still was their claim that the Range Rover heralded an entirely new age of travel, bringing fresh and exciting prospects to motoring in the 1970’s and beyond. Whilst they were clearly pleased with themselves, they had not envisaged that “beyond” meant more than 40 years and that the classic-shaped vehicles are now finding a growing momentum in the market, especially for well looked after examples.
This good, usable 1989 example has only averaged a shade over 3,000 miles a year, the total recorded mileage showing as just under 79,000 miles. Acquired by the owner seven years ago, it has recently been fitted with a new exhaust along with fresh tyres and a new headlining to smarten up the interior. Equipped with a useful tow bar, it is worth noting that a Range Rover can legally pull 3 ½ tonnes, a feat which it accomplishes with ease.
This velour-trimmed automatic looks like a cost effective way of joining the ever growing band of Range Rover Classic enthusiasts, with a low mileage car that can be used immediately and improved still further over the next few years. It is MOTd until May 2016.
