The Ford 103E is best known to most enthusiasts as the 'sit up and beg' Popular. Launched in 1953 as a budget addition to the Anglia and Prefect range, it hit the market at the perfect time as second-hand cars were virtually unobtainable.

For sale alongside the more modern three-box monocoque Prefect/Anglia it won many friends for its unpretentious basic design which, despite a lack of such luxuries as a heater or passenger windscreen wiper, performed sterling service with considerable charm.

This sound, usable 1959 example was purchased by the vendor from a friend in Somerset who had acquired it as part of a house clearance. Sadly, any history that may have existed for the car got lost at this point. Bought initally to turn into a Ford Pop hot rod, it soon became apparent that it was far too good to chop about so was sold on to the vendor in 2011.

He has enjoyed it very much, using it for local shows and events, restricting himself to 60 mile journeys. He is now looking for something that will cover more distance, so he can take the grandchildren further afield. Reported to drive well, its last MOT expired in 2013 (now exempt) and at some time in the past it has been converted to 12-volt electrics.

Retaining its original bodywork and tidy interior, the vendor advises that everything is in working order and that it is ready for the summer show circuit.
