The versatile Volkswagen T2 Transporter was offered in a vast array of different models, from the basic panel van to people mover and truck cab pickup, the precursor of today’s ubiquitous MPV.

In 1967 it received a major facelift, replacing the distinctive split windscreen with a full-width bay window and gained a sliding side door and more robust 1,600cc engine. Later models were to use the larger 1.7- and 2.0-litre engines from the 411 and 412 models, necessitating major changes to the engine compartment, although externally the most obvious difference on these was the relocation of the indicators to just under the windscreen.

This very smart 1967 Microbus seven seater was sold new into the US market, its history picking up in 2001 when it lived with a family in Merlin, Oregon, a town located some 400 miles north of sunny San Francisco. Various title documents remain on file, along with a probate declaration stating that its owner had passed away in 2011.

It was subsequently imported into the UK by VW Camper specialists Morecambe and Wize Ltd and first UK registered in February 2013. Sold to a gentleman from London in August of that year, it was also fitted with a Toad Thatcham-approved alarm. He kept the Microbus until September 2014, passing it onto its new owner who has loved the vehicle, but sadly through a sudden change of circumstance is reluctantly offering it for sale.

Its first UK MOT (which took place prior to it being registered in 2013) shows an indicated 56,880 miles on the clock, the total having increased by just 2,250 miles since then although we have no documentation to confirm if this is the total covered since new. Its current ticket expires in April 2016 and this fine looking bus is ready for summer outings and overnight stays.
