MGBs are still such a common sight on Britain's roads that it is sometimes easy to forget just what delightful little cars they are. Beautifully styled, easy to maintain and more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic, they are in many ways the perfect classic car.

Launched in 1962 to replace the MGA which had done wonders for the reputation of the marque and sold in previously unheard-of numbers, the MGB was an immediate success. Powered by an enlarged 1,789cc version of the BMC 'B' series engine with pushrod operated overhead-valves, it developed a useful 94bhp and produced bags of torque at very low revs.

Updated along the way, the Series III arrived in 1972 with numerous improvements, although it successfully managed to retain the charm of the original in an easier to live with package with greatly improved ergonomics.

This one owner Mk III BGT was first registered in October 1974 and was one of the last chrome bumper models to leave the factory before the rubber bumper cars made their debut that year. Ordered in Damask red, it retains the original interior which remains in good condition with the exception of a little bagginess to the driver’s seat as one might expect.

It has covered just 41,644 miles from new and comes with a huge history file with invoices going back to 1976. In smart overall condition, it has good door gaps and the under bonnet area is sound and original.
Ordered without a sunroof, the car remains to standard specification, its Rostyle wheels remaining in good condition and the original tool kit sitting in the correct place in the boot.

The original handbook, paint chart and rustproofing guarantee are all included in the paperwork, this lovely, original MG only being offered for sale due to the Octogenarian owner finding it a bit of a challenge to use these days.

MOTd until August 2015, it is nice to find such an original, low mileage, unmolested one owner MGB.
