The third generation of Fiestas made their debut in 1989, remaining in production until 1995, several years after its replacement had gone on sale. Fitted with much improved rear suspension, the new car was based on an entirely new platform and was an immediate hit, over one million being sold within the first two years of production.

From 1990 until 1992, the range was crowned with the RS Turbo model. Using much of the specification from the slightly cheaper XR2i, it got larger 14” wheels, colour coded bumpers, Recaro seats and a sports steering wheel with RS Turbo badge in case you couldn’t remember what car you were driving. Best of all though was the engine, which used a 1,597cc CVH unit with an 8.0:1 compression ratio fitted with a Garret T2 Turbo delivering 8psi of boost through a large intercooler. Its 133bhp gave the little pocket-rocket a top speed of 133mph and a 0-60 time of just 7.9 seconds.

This April 1991 example has clearly had a great deal of time and money lavished on it over the years. A large file of bills and invoices detail such extras as a Stage 1 chip, Mongoose exhaust and Toad alarm, the car sporting a Nomad oil-pressure and boost gauge on the A-pillar. The instruments have been modified with white-faces, the odometer reading 22,747 miles although it cannot be confirmed if this is correct. A smart blue hose set finishes off the clean engine-bay, the whole car looking smart in fashionable white.

Entered into the sale by a collector of Ford’s finest, it hasn’t been used on the road for several years, although the last MOT only expired in January of this year. Now requiring a fresh test, this hot Fiesta looks like there is a lot of fun to be had for little outlay, the car being offered at no reserve so the highest bidder takes it.
