One of half-a-dozen MGBs in our sale today, this MkII Roadster has had just five owners from new in February 1970 and has had just two owners since 1978.

Bought on impulse in May 1996 because it had a tow bar fitted, the vendor planned to use it to take himself and his wife on holiday for a week in their small caravan and then sell it on afterwards. However, so well did it perform these duties that, two decades later, it still resides in his garage although it has never since been required to perform towing duties, a more modern 4x4 having long since assumed this role.

With some 55,000 miles on the clock when acquired, it is now showing some 94,500 miles although it has barely been used at all in the last few years, a long run of old MOTs back to 1997 showing that only 500 miles have passed under its wheels since 2010, hence the reason for sale.

Always well-maintained by its current long-term owner (an ex-MG Car Club restorer and former engineer in Austin’s experimental department at Longbridge), it has had many new parts fitted over the years and was long ago converted to 12v electrics.

More recent parts include an oil cooler, brake servo upgrade, electric cooling fan, king pins and a fuel pump. The black leather seat covers are also relatively recent, as is the black soft top and all four tyres. Always kept garaged when not in use, it is in fair condition for its age and is said to drive well with an MOT until April 2016.

By virtue of his former occupation, the vendor has amassed a very large quantity of MG spares over the years, including many body panels and other hard to find bits, and also has a Marina TC engine that has covered a mere 800 miles from new and would drop easily into any MGB. These will be made available to the winning bidder if desired, although they will need to be collected from the Malvern/Upton area and a small additional payment may be required, depending on the quantity of parts involved – and the generosity of the winning bid on the car itself!

Please note that this car has been smartened up considerably since these photos were taken and will look much better in the metal on sale day!
