One of Britain’s most popular sportscars for the past 50 years, the venerable MGB needs no introduction and its technical features are amply covered in the preambles to the other five examples in this catalogue.

This particular car is a MkII Roadster that was bought new in August 1972 from Howells Garages of Cardiff by one Miss Watkins of Porth. It still has traces of the original HG sticker on the windscreen and retains its original service book with six Howells service stamps up to 18,396 miles in January 1974, along with various invoices showing regular care early in its life.

The second owner was a lady doctor who was given the car as a 21st birthday present in 1975, the remains of her ‘Doctor on call’ sticker also being still visible on the windscreen. She used the car until 1980 by which time it had 64,602 miles under its wheels (as shown on an old MOT from this period), but then acquired a more modern car and the MGB was put into storage where it was to remain until the vendor stumbled across it fairly recently.

An inveterate car restorer always with numerous projects on the go, he was distressed to see such a sound old car languishing unloved and unused, so a deal was struck and the MGB was soon safely in his workshop and being brought gently back to life. Although the bodywork was in remarkably good condition following 35 years indoors, the engine had seized so this was taken out and fully rebuilt and balanced. Any other mechanical maladies were also attended to, including a new radiator and a thorough brake overhaul with new front callipers etc., the money spent on parts alone amounting to some £3,250.

Now back in good running order with an MOT until May 2016, all the hard work has been done and the car can be used as it is and cosmetically improved over time as desired. Although it currently sports period alloy wheels, the original Rostyles are also included.

An overdrive-equipped model with just three owners from new and an expertly built and balanced engine that is not even run in yet, it is being offered here at no reserve as the vendor now has another rather more exotic project on the go and the space currently occupied by the MGB is urgently required.
