Essentially a slightly more expensive badge-engineered version of the Austin-Healey Sprite MkII, the MG Midget was launched in 1961, initially with a 948cc twin carb A-Series engine producing 46bhp.

In 1962 the engine was uprated to a 1,098cc unit now with 56bhp and brake discs replaced the drums at the front. With the launch of the MkIII version in 1966, the engine was enlarged yet again to 1,275cc and now produced 67bhp. The rear axle ratio was also increased for more relaxed cruising along with a host of minor revisions to the interior and exterior, including more rounded rear wheel arches from 1972 (a retrograde styling tweak in the eyes of many enthusiasts).

Eminently tuneable, the MkIII is now particularly popular in the many race series that are organised for MG Midgets to compete in. On the road it is an exhilarating car to drive as you always feel like you are going twice as fast as you really are!

Looking superb in Canary Yellow with black trim and sporty wire wheels, this lovely example dates from 1969 and has had just one owner since 1995, according to the V5. It has recently been treated to a major bout of mechanical fettling including a cylinder head overhaul with new valve seats for lead-free petrol, new camshaft and followers, fuel pump, exhaust rear section, handbrake cable and headlights, plus general servicing and tune-up.

The body, paint, chrome, tonneau cover and wire wheels are in very good condition, as is the black vinyl interior. The hood is new, however it has not yet been fitted to the hood frame. Recently issued with a new MOT valid until July 2016, it is ready to drive away today.

AMENDMENT: Since the catalogue went to press a Heritage Certificate for this car has turned up which gives the colour as Pale Primrose Yellow (not Canary as stated above) and which confirms that it is a matching numbers machine. See the attached photo for more details.
