Launched in 1995, the Mercedes Sprinter immediately won the International Van of the Year award, a feat it repeated when the second generation model was launched in 2007 and it has continued to sell in vast numbers to this day.

Available in a bewildering range of formats with a variety of petrol and diesel engines, all were immensely capable workhorses and had the performance to match most cars, as anyone who has had one filling their mirrors in the fast lane of the motorway will be only too well aware. Tough as nails and capable of endless customisation, they have become a favourite of conversion companies catering to well-heeled clients wanting a spacious luxury limo, mobile office, outside broadcasting TV studio, private ambulance, upmarket campervan – you name it, they will make it.

Top of the tree are vans converted by McLaren Sports Homes of Leigh in Lancashire, who began building race vans and motorhomes for the motorsport industry (hence the name). They soon branched out into making bespoke Sporthomes and Motorhomes for anyone rich enough to afford them, this particular vehicle being a classic case in point.

Based on a massive 2014 M-B Sprinter 319 CDI Blue Efficiency 4x4 XLWB van costing £48,200 (and powered by the range-topping 3-litre 24v DOHC diesel-injection V6 engine producing 190bhp and 325lb/ft of torque driving all four wheels via sophisticated electronic traction control and a 5-speed automatic gearbox), it then had another £45,300 thrown at it to produce the fabulous machine you see before you.

Specially ordered in left-hand drive for touring Europe, this bespoke luxurious two-berth motorhome is finished in Iridium Silver metallic and trimmed impeccably with bespoke McLaren diamond stitched black leather upholstery and contemporary silver birch cabinetry. It is packed with virtually every option offered by McLaren including:

Truma Combi gas/electric space and water heater with digital control unit; TracVision satellite dome with 16" LED TV/DVD with wi-fi internet; LED interior lighting with dimmer switches; SMEV 2-burner hob and stainless steel sink with black glass lids; 95-litre fridge; Freshjet roof-mounted air conditioning which can be used both on the move and while stationary; full privacy glazing; Remis concertina cab blackout blinds; white faux leather diamond stitch ceiling; Waeco rear camera; PC200 touch screen central control unit; Fiamma F65L 450 awning with LED awning lights; power side door; Thule electric entry step; exterior BBQ gas point; electric hook up and lockable fresh water fill up point; Heki roof vents with insect and blackout blinds; 2-ton towbar with 13 pin electrics; 38-litre LPG tank; 100-litre fresh water tank; 80-litre waste tank; 2 x leisure batteries; full chequer plate garage area, the list goes on and on…

Currently fitted with winter wheel and tyres, it also comes with Lenso Concerto 20" polished face alloy wheels. With just one owner and less than 1,000 miles from new, it is barely even run in yet and is just as comfortable charging down the autobahn as it is clambering across rough terrain.

Costing £93,500 just 12 months ago, and perfect for towing your classic Ferrari race car around the circuits of Europe, it has to be considered something of a bargain at the guide price suggested.
