Launched in 1962 to replace the hugely popular MGA, the all new MGB was an immediate success. Its freshly styled monocoque body offered a degree of sophistication way ahead of its predecessor, gaining many converts from the competition who soldiered on using a traditional ladder chassis layout.

Powered by an enlarged 1,798cc version of the BMC 'B' series engine which developed a useful 95bhp, the new car could hit 100mph with ease. Providing comfortable accommodation for two, it was available initially as a Roadster, the 2+2 GT joining the ranks in 1965. Both offered plenty of luggage carrying capacity and remain very pleasing and practical classics to own today.

Being a 1966 model, this MkI MGB Roadster has the improved 5-bearing engine and dynamo electrics which were introduced in October 1964. Formerly on a private plate, it was re-registered with a Devon number in 2005, the current lady owner buying the car in Cornwall in September 2006.

During the year prior to purchase the car had received a substantial renovation including a bare metal respray, a replacement windscreen frame and glass, new hood, five new wire wheels and tyres, new master and wheel cylinders and new door trims. A new fuel tank and sender unit were fitted along with new front brake discs and a new starter motor; the underside was also waxoiled. A boot carpet kit was fitted, including a spare wheel cover, and the spare wheel is in unused condition.

During the present 9-year ownership, maintenance items have been a new steering rack, U/J and track rod ends plus replacement of the engine oil cooler and hoses. A new tonneau and tonneau bar were purchased to complete the weather equipment. Always kept garaged and not used in winter, it has covered only 9,000 miles in the current ownership, mainly on MAC Classic runs including trips to Northumberland, North Yorkshire, France and Southern Ireland on which it has been totally reliable.

Said to drive well with an MOT until October 2016, it comes with various receipts and bills and is ready for a new owner to enjoy right away.
