Jaguar’s fine reputation for building world class cars with uniquely British looks was only reinforced when the XK8 was launched in 1996.
After some issues over build quality in previous years, Jaguar was back on top form with the new XK8 and no-one had a bad word to say about it. Following a vast injection of capital from parent company Ford, build quality was superb and the Grand Tourer could easily hold its own against rival German products from Porsche, Mercedes and BMW.
Initially available with a 290bhp 4-litre V8, this was upgraded to a 300bhp 4.2-litre unit in 2002, with supercharged versions of both engines also available in the ‘R’ models. The mandatory 5-speed auto box was astonishingly smooth with imperceptible changes. Along with the new engine came a host of other improvements including a styling face lift, metal rather than plastic tensioners for the timing chains, improved power steering, Xenon headlamps, intelligent seat belts that could sense who was sitting where and many other upgrades.
This June 2003 XK Convertible incorporates all the tweaks made to the model. An ex-demonstrator with just three lady owners since, it has covered some 119,200 miles with six service stamps to date, the last less than 2,000 miles ago.
Said to drive beautifully with huge and ready power, it has all the toys you could wish for including built-in sat nav, heated electric Recaro seats, power operated blue soft top and a 19” alloy wheel upgrade. MOTd until 24th June 2016, it also comes with all its original handbooks and two sets of keys.
