Every schoolboy’s dream of what a proper 911 should look like, the 3.2 Carrera is perhaps the most popular of the air-cooled models thanks to its blend of classic good looks, scintillating peformance and relatively low cost of ownership – all subsequent models being more complex machines that need deeper pockets to maintain.

Produced from 1984 to 1989 and visually similar to the outgoing SC, the Carrera was much improved under the skin with bigger brakes and an 80% new flat-six engine that incorporated an effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system that at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming.

Driving refinement and reliability were improved with a new Bosch Motronic 2 ignition system, the end result being a power hike to 231bhp and 209lb/ft of torque. Quick revving thanks to its shorter stoke yet still torquey courtesy of its larger 3,164cc capacity, it could shoot to 60mph in 5.4 seconds on its way to a 152mph maximum, speeds that only the Turbo model could have matched in the past.

This very smart Guards red example comes with a considerable history file including numerous bills and invoices and 17 old MOTs. It has covered some 197,000 miles, having had a great deal of care and attention lavished on it over the years.

Earlier this year, the vendor spent a small fortune on a comprehensive bodywork restoration at Rushock-based specialists SVP Porsche. They undertook a full review, replacing any metalwork that was not up to standard. This included the removal and replacement of the rear quarter panels, kidney bowls, door-shuts, sills and two new Porsche front wings. The car was treated to a quality glass-out respray and built up with new rubbers, the end result looking magnificent.

MOTd until June 2016, this extremely well presented Carrera 3.2 has just received a comprehensive oil service at a local Aston-Martin Specialist using top-quality oil and is ready for its new owner to enjoy straight away.
