History

When Porsche launched the 924 in November 1975, it marked a radical departure for the company: not only did it have a front engine, it was also cooled by water rather than air. Initially Porsche fans were not entirely convinced but, once behind the wheel, few could really find anything to complain about. With its front engine, rear transaxle layout, the 924 was a fabulously well balanced machine that actually outhandled the rest of the Porsche range.

Of course with its 2-litre 125bhp four cylinder engine it lacked the sheer punch of  the 911, but things improved dramatically in 1986 when the 924S was introduced. This used the 2.5-litre 165bhp engine of the new 944 model but was actually faster than that car due to its lower weight. It was also cheaper than the 944 and outsold the newcomer to such an embarrassing extent that Porsche discontinued it after two short years.

As the huge history file confirms, this particular 924S has been loved and cherished all its life. The top end of the engine has recently been overhauled and all the belts changed. New tyres have been fitted all round and an alarm immobiliser system fitted. Said to drive very well indeed the car has a long MOT and is ready to jump into and enjoy.
