America’s most famous and popular limousine, the Lincoln Town Car was launched in 1981 and remained in production until 2011, going through three generations of development along the way.
Famously durable, it is said that the average Town Car in commercial service in the USA clocks up over 400,000 miles in its lifetime. The second generation model, as here, ran from 1990 to 1997 and was fitted with a Ford Modular SOHC 4.6-litre petrol V8 producing 210bhp and 275lb/ft.
Packed with every conceivable luxury as standard, it could also be ordered in numerous special trim options depending on just how high your embarrassment threshold was. Golf fans, for instance, could have the Jack Nicklaus edition with a green body with a white vinyl roof, white leather interior piped in green with green carpets and door trims, exterior gold ornaments including gold and green ‘Golden Bear’ bumper ornaments and numerous embroidered vinyl trimmings both inside and out.
First registered in Canada in October 1996, this car has the mercifully restrained Executive trim package. It was imported to the UK in December of that year with delivery mileage only. Costing £56,500 the specification included: Silver Frost Clearcoat Metallic paintwork; red leather interior; 4.6-litre petrol engine; 4-speed overdrive automatic transmission; 418 Limousine Package with 30” stretch; rear console with decanters and glasses; 8-way power front seats; digital LED dash; keyless entry using a keypad instead; rear air conditioning and heater unit console with full controls; CD/radio with four speakers; intercom system; removable over-carpets; indirect interior and mood lighting; reading lights; executive style formal rear window with full vinyl roof; two folding occasional seats; illuminated rear visor vanity mirrors; dual dividers (glass and solid) plus numerous other luxuries.
It was ordered by a UK car enthusiast who had a collection of vintage and modern vehicles and employed a full-time driver. Intended as personal transport for the owner and his wife (who suffered from reduced mobility), in fact it received almost no use as the owner's wife continued to be able to use another vehicle until she became housebound. The Lincoln thus spent most of its life under cover and has still covered less than 2,800 chauffeur-driven miles.
Being offered here from a deceased estate, it has been recently recommissioned to prepare it for sale and comes with an MOT until July 2016 with no advisories recorded. It also comes with various handbooks and leaflets charting the specification of the car and how to operate its many features plus a file of correspondence relating to its importation. For peace of mind a Tacker anti-theft system is also fitted.
A wonderfully baroque machine in the best possible taste, it has endless commercial potential and will certainly get you noticed down at the Dog and Duck. It is being offered here at no reserve so please only stick your hand up if your garage is at least 21ft long and 9ft wide or you may upset your neighbours when they see it moored outside.
