Starting out in life as a nice friendly Ford Model Y Tudor Sedan in May 1937, this impressive looking beast got a whole lot more menacing back in the late 1980s when the previous owner’s father decided to treat it to a good dose of steroids.

According to dozens of pages of notes in the history file, work started on the transformation in September 1986 and continued steadily for 16 months until the car was finally MOT’d and on the road in January 1988. It was continually developed by the owner until he passed away in May 2014, at which point his son inherited the car.

He continued to enjoy the car for a while, attending various drag meets and shows, as detailed in more notes on file, before finally selling it to the current owner in May this year. Driven 100 miles from Frome to its new home in Leominster, the car “didn’t miss a beat” according to yet another note in the file.

The exact details of the build are far too complex to cover here in full but are amply documented in copious notes on file. Highlights include: boxed chassis; Cologne V6 engine; four-speed gearbox; billet aluminium pedal box; Ford rear axle; Vauxhall independent front suspension with disc braking; all steel body apart from rear wings and rear valance which are made in high quality composite; refinished in triple black; re-trimmed in dark green vinyl with quality carpeting and headlining; Jaguar 15” rear wheels on full profile tyres with Morris 14” fronts giving the correct ‘Big ‘n’ little’ stance.

With very impressive acceleration, this Hot Rodded English Model Y Ford is the doppelganger in miniature of the iconic 1934 Ford used by Bonnie and Clyde in their audacious robberies. Driven locally around Leominster all summer, the vendor has used the Model Y as his everyday car, demonstrating the soundness of the machine by submitting it for an MOT test which runs until February 2016 (although it is, of course, old enough to make it MOT and tax exempt).

Now faced with a storage problem over the winter, the vendor does not wish to see this fine little car deteriorate, hence its appearance in this sale today.
