One of Britain’s greatest sidecar racers, Colin Seeley bought Associated Motor Cycles' racing department when the company went into receivership in 1966.
Already an established AMC dealer, he slotted race-tuned Matchless engines into his own lightweight Seeley frame and race victories were soon to follow. The frame was refined and strengthened over the years to take other engines, the Mk3 and Mk4 versions dispensing with the conventional lower duplex loop to allow privateers to fit the Norton Commando engine, with additional down-tubes also available to support the weightier twin-cylinder engine, for use in Formula 750 and open-class racing.
This particular machine uses a replica Seeley frame fitted with a c.1972 Norton Commando 750 engine. Other features include: RGM close ratio gearbox; Boyer ignition; Amal smooth bore carbs; belt primary drive; Lockheed racing front caliper; Triumph conical hubs and Akront rims.
We are informed by the vendor that this bike was formerly used in classic races on the Isle of Man when fitted with a 500cc engine.
