The Ford Popular 100E was sold alongside the pre-war styled ‘sit up and beg’ 103E popular. One step up from the basic ladder-framed design of its sibling, the 100E had a monocoque bodyshell, coil springs and hydraulic brakes.

In production from 1953 until 1959, its strengthened 1,172cc side valve 10hp-rated engine gave 36bhp, sufficient for a top whack of 71mph, whilst 60mph took a leisurely 32 seconds to reach from a standstill. Probably of more importance to the general public was an average of 33mpg, and while service intervals were still every 1,000 miles, the number of grease nipples had been reduced by a half.

Well over 100,000 were to hit the roads in its seven-year production run, making the 100E a very common sight on the roads of Britain in the period.

Finished in original Lichen Green with a cream vinyl interior, this Pop was first registered in February 1961 and has had five owners to date, the current since 2008. The odometer is showing an unwarranted 52,742 miles. The shell appears basically sound with recent welding worth £200 in January 2016 and earlier welding in July 2008 totalling £340. There is no further documentation apart from a V5C.

A straightforward restoration project, this Pop has been in storage for many years and offers an ideal project for the oily-handed enthusiast. It is being sold here at no reserve so the highest bid takes it.
