Introduced in 1965, the Pininfarina-styled MGB GT 2+2 was based on the already incredibly successful convertible, incorporating a taller windscreen, new roof line and doors.

An instant hit, it delivered a more than respectable performance in an elegant and comfortable close-coupled coupe, helping the MGB to become one of the most successful sports cars of all time. By the time they ceased production in 1980, no fewer than 523,000 MGBs had left the works and according to the latest DVLA figures, an astonishing 36,000 are still registered on the system.

By 1974 the company had reacted to new US parking regulations by introducing rubber bumpers, raising the car in the process to meet changes to the lighting regulations. This US spec became standard across all markets, continuing until the final car left the factory in 1980. Their reliability, performance and excellent handling means there is no reason why an MGB can’t be used as an everyday car; just ask our very own Toby Service who uses his as a daily driver!

This overdrive equipped 1978 model was purchased by the vendor through Brightwells in 2014 from its previous owner who had owned the car since 2002. He had only used it during the summer months and had to sell for health reasons.

The vendor has recently fitted a new wind-deflector to the Webasto sunroof and generally smartened up what was already a well looked after car. The doors have been rebuilt with new glass and it has had a new alternator, starter motor, coil, belts, leads and a thorough service. New carpets have been fitted inside which complement the attractive leather upholstery and fresh insulation under the bonnet has tidied that area too. We are advised that it has had an unleaded head conversion as well as a part stainless steel exhaust fitted.

The comprehensive history file includes numerous bills, 23 old MOTs and a parts book, the current MOT expiring in January 2017.

These late model MGBs offer exceptional value at the moment, a situation which we feel can't last for much longer, this well spec'd B offering reliable classic motoring for those on a tight budget.
