Launched in 1998, the 996 featured the most significant changes to the iconic Porsche 911 since it had been launched way back in 1963.
For the first time ever it had a water-cooled engine which was introduced to meet more stringent environmental concerns, noise regulations and higher owner expectations regarding refinement. It was available with two basic engines, a 296bhp 3.4-litre and a 320bhp 3.6-litre, driving through either a six-speed manual or a Tiptronic semi-automatic gearbox.
All versions were blisteringly fast and capable cars, the 3.4 model covering the 0-60 dash in just 5.2 seconds on the way to a top speed of 174mph with up to 25mpg economy. Build quality was exemplary and the handling was sensational with all the legendary tactility and feedback that has always made the 911 a favourite amongst really enthusiastic drivers.
This particular 3.4-litre Carrera 2 was first registered in March 1998 and has covered a shade under 63,000 miles since then. Its comprehensive service history lists eight services in the book, six having been carried out within the Porsche dealer network.
Described by the vendor as a very nice original car, which retains all of its factory stickers, handbook and many old MOTs, it certainly looks the part in its silver livery with black leather upholstery and 17” alloy wheels on quality tyres.
MOTd until May 2016 and fitted with working climate control, the icing on the cake is the private number M111 JKH which is included in the sale. PLEASE NOTE: Revised estimate
