One of the truly remarkable things about the MGB is their phenomenal survival rate. Made in significant numbers for very nearly 20 years, over 523,000 found homes before production finally ceased in 1980.
One of the overriding reasons for their continued popularity, apart from their good looks and strong performance, is the fantastic supply of spare parts. A large number of specialists can supply quite literally any component, with a range of upgrades available too including engines up to 250bhp!
This late ‘chrome bumper’ MGB GT was first registered in August 1974 to London Weekend Television. Finished in Damask Red, it has attractive black leather seats that feature a broad red leather panel in their centre.
A Webasto-type sunroof is fitted for sunny days and the trademark Rostyle wheels look in good cosmetic order. Fitted with the desirable overdrive option, its history file contains information dating back to 1975 when the car was just one year old.
There are 15 old MOTs and an invoice which confirms that a replacement unleaded engine was fitted to the car in 1992 at a cost over £1,030 as well as the original Passport to Service booklet citing LWT as the first owner. Due to be driven to the sale, it is also due to have a fresh MOT before it gets here.
