The Mobylette was part of another French Revolution. At home as much in the country carrying chickens to market as in central Paris during rush hour, they replaced everything from the horse and trap to the Gendarme's bicycle.

Produced by the Motobecane company, some 14 million were sold between 1949 and 1997, the word Mobylette or ‘Moby’ becoming a generic term in France for any small-engined motorcycle. Built under licence in both Britain by Raleigh and in India under the name Suvega, there is now a cult following for these iconic and stylish machines.

Another of the small mopeds in the sale today that has sadly lost its paperwork, this sound little machine is in running order and is thought to date from the early ‘70s. It is showing a mere 2,187 miles on the mph speedo but this cannot be warranted although it does suggest that it is a British made example. These tiny creatures are extremely pleasurable to ride and easy to maintain thanks to the excellent availability of spare parts.
