History

Undoubtedly one of the greatest saloon cars of all time, the Jaguar XJ range was launched way back in 1968 but, so beautifully proportioned was the original design, that it was still recognisably the same car over three decades later. After some issues over build quality in the late '70s and over styling in the late '80s, the XJ once again regained its old magic in 1995 with the launch of the X300 - considered by many to be the best looking and best made of all the XJ range.

Under the masterful eye of chief stylist Geoff Lawson (who also penned the dramatic XJ220 and the retro-cool S-Type), the slabby styling of the XJ40 was binned in favour of a return to the muscular curves and quad headlamps that had traditionally defined the big cat's appeal. Powered by revised versions of the AJ-6 and legendary V12 engines and underpinned by vast improvements in build quality thanks to the deep pockets of new owner Ford, the X300 was a great success.

Top of  the range was the mighty 6-litre Daimler Double Six, which cost well over £60,000 at its launch in 1995. Pushing out 332bhp and 353lb/ft of torque, it gave effortless 150mph+ performance in conditions of near total silence.

Supplied new by Hartwell Jaguar of Shrewsbury in March 1995, this car has had just three owners and comes with a full service history from Hartwell to verify the current mileage of 84,500. Looking particularly striking in British Racing Green with Nimbus Grey leather, it comes with every conceivable extra including air conditioning, electric sunroof, cruise control, rear picnic tables, electric memory seats, 6-stack CD system, lambswool overmats and a full-sized spare wheel.

Said to drive superbly, it was treated to a full gearbox rebuild in May this year at a cost of over £1,600. It comes with a Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Certificate, all its original handbooks and two sets of keys. Where else could you find such luxury motoring at such a very modest price?
