Triumph revitalised its classic TR range in 1968 and introduced the Karmann-styled TR6. Sharp, clean and fresh, the TR6 sported a more aggressive body with revised front and rear end styling although the centre section remained the same as the TR4 and TR5.

For the UK market, the straight-six fuel-injected 150bhp 2,498cc engine also carried over from the previous TR5 model, although from 1973 it was changed for a milder 125bhp unit to meet stricter emissions regulations.

Widely regarded as the last of the proper TRs, it had potent front disc brakes, independent front suspension and a very sporting ride. Inside was a very pleasant place to sit with pile carpets on floors and boot, plush-looking bucket seats, a lovely wooden dashboard and a full complement of instrumentation. Good for 120mph and 0-60mph in 8.2 seconds in full-fat 150bhp form, this fine looking sportscar can still easily hold its own in modern traffic. A huge sales success, more than 94,000 TR6s were built (90% of them for the US market), before it was replaced by the much softer TR7 in 1975.

One of the finest examples that we have had the pleasure to offer, this UK supplied TR6 is finished in Damson with a black leather interior and was the subject of a massive restoration by CTM Engineering of Curbridge Hampshire, some 15,124 miles having been covered in the last 12 years since the restoration was completed.

The vendor, a prominent BBC TV producer, set out on a mission to find himself the perfect Triumph TR6. After searching for what seemed like an age, CTM Engineering called to say that a restoration that they were conducting for a very ‘picky customer’ had stalled due to lack of funds. Although he would have preferred to buy a completed car, he viewed the unfinished Triumph, the quality of work being such that he decided to buy JGP 499K and engage CTM to finish the car to the same high standard of the work already completed.

During the rebuild, its 150bhp engine was fitted with a modified Bosch fuel injection pump and a free flowing stainless steel exhaust system. Cooling duties are handled by a custom made aluminium radiator and the engine bay prepared to the same high standards as the outside of the car – even the underside of the bonnet is polished to a mirror finish. Details abound with polished brake pipes and a polished aluminium rocker cover.

A full black leather ‘club’ interior from Moss, top quality carpets, walnut dashboard and door cappings were added along with a classic Moto Lita steering wheel.

Since the Triumph was finished and back on the road in 2004, the vendor has taken great care to maintain its performance and condition. It has had regular trips back to CTM for check-ups interspersed with visits to Triumph owning specialist Mick George of Bodenham Herefordshire. Invoices from 2013 alone show that over £5,000 was spent on the differential and prop shaft.

By his own admission he is a ‘press on driver,’ and replaced the original chrome wire wheels with new lightweight Manolete-type aluminium wheels in May 2013. As can be seen from its presentation, he has taken great care over the servicing and preservation of this car which remains in tip-top condition. With an MOT until April 2017, it also comes with a Heritage Certificate confirming its origins and a good file of invoices.

Now having taken advantage of early retirement, he wishes to try a new type of classic car ownership and fallen for the charms of a brand new Morgan.

AMENDMENT: Reduced estimate of £25,000 - £28,000
