History

The BMW 8 Series coupe was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989 and featured several road car firsts such as the first electronic 'fly-by-wire' throttle, the first to use a 'CAN bus' system to cut down the complexity and weight of the electrical system and the first BMW to use a multi link rear axle. The early V8 cars used a 4-litre engine with 286hp but in late 1995 this was replaced with a 4.4-litre which had better fuel economy and more torque (310lb/ft), though power remained unchanged. Electronically limited to 155mph, it could sprint to 60 in 7 seconds. Costing over £50,000 new it was always an exclusive machine and just 30,600 were made before production ceased in 1999.

First registered in April 1997, this is a rare Sport model with 5-speed Steptronic auto 'box. It has had only two owners from new, the last owning it since 1999, and has covered 87,000 miles with a full service history, half main agent and half BMW specialists. It has every conceivable extra including BMW 17" split rim alloy wheels, climate control, air con, electric heated memory seats, electric steering column, sunroof, windows, mirrors, rear blind, computer, auto dip mirror, ASC, ABS, airbags, radio/cassette/CD autochanger. With an MOT until September 2008 and said to be in excellent condition throughout it is a huge amount of car for the money.
