The Mini Daly Runabout was one of a number of open-air conversions available on the humble Mini, although the Daly was the only one approved by BL and sold through the main BL dealer network.

Retaining the full factory warranty, a Daly Runabout could be yours for roughly twice the price of the standard tin-top and featured a well-designed convertible roof, retrimmed seats, door panels and a special dashboard. On the outside, the Daly was spiced up with an unusual rear mounted spare wheel, bespoke number plate surround and side stripes, along with special Mamba alloy wheels which made them look very smart indeed.

With just 19,000 miles on the clock, this 1981 example has had four previous owners and is the actual car used on the back of the Runabout sales brochure. It retains its original running-in sticker on the windscreen, the vendor reporting that as far as he knows, it has never had any welding and is in excellent order underneath. The document file includes 10 old MOTs, a handbook and a letter from a previous owner confirming the mileage to be genuine along with a copy of the original brochure.

Previously owned for some 30 years by Duncan Fearnley, renowned cricketer, Chairman of Worcester County Cricket Club and manufacturer of cricket bats under his own name, it came into the vendor’s hands in 2010. He has covered around 6,000 miles since then, during which time the car has proved extremely reliable and terrific fun to drive. He has looked after it carefully and has recently added a new set of tyres. Due to carry a fresh MOT by the time of the sale, it is ready for its next owner to enjoy.

Judging by the smiles on the faces of the children in the picture (courtesy of www.PaulaJayne.com), this rare and collectable Mini Daly looks like an enormous amount of fun. The icing on the cake is a Duncan Fearnley cricket bat, signed by the Lancashire CCC team, which is included as part of the package and is a fantastic piece of sports memorabilia in its own right - unless you're from Yorkshire of course...
