MGBs are still such a relatively common sight on Britain's roads that it is sometimes easy to forget just what delightful little cars they are. Beautifully styled, easy to maintain and more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic, they are in many ways the perfect classic car.

Launched in 1962 to replace the MGA which had done wonders for the reputation of the marque and sold in previously unheard-of numbers, the MGB was an immediate success. Powered by an enlarged 1,789cc version of the BMC 'B' series engine with pushrod operated overhead-valves, it developed a useful 94bhp and produced bags of torque at very low revs.

Updated along the way, the Series III arrived in 1972 with numerous improvements, although it successfully managed to retain the charm of the original in an easier to live with package.

Registered on 1st January 1974, this GT comes with a file of invoices showing regular maintenance and expenditure. The brakes were comprehensively overhauled in 2010 and the track rod ends replaced for its most recent MOT which expires in April 2017. Fitted with the desirable manual gearbox with overdrive, the vendor confirms that this useful option works as it should.

Other additions include electronic ignition and an interior wood trim kit, a recent owner having also fitted four new Minilite style wheels with new Uniroyal tyres, the original set of five Rostyles, being included in the sale.

This strong and usable example has escaped the usual addition of a sunroof, a factor which will no doubt appeal to the purist, making this entry level, tax exempt BGT look something of a bargain at the suggested guide price, especially given the direction MGB prices have been heading of late.
