History
The names Triumph and Tiger have been part of the British motorcycling scene for many years. The origins of the 750cc model date back to 1967 when American dealers were urging Triumph to produce a model of this size. The 750cc models first appeared at the beginning of 1973 and can be regarded as ‘stretched’ versions of the well proven 650cc design. The engine features larger barrels, a ten-stud cylinder head, stronger pistons, shorter but more robust connecting rods to reduce vibration and a triplex primary chain. Enlarged oil-ways and a pump of greater capacity improved the lubrication flow.
The duplex frame features a 4-inch tubular backbone that provides strength, stiffness and acts as the oil tank. The Cerrani-style front forks give 6.5-inch of double-damped movement and braking is taken care of by single discs front and rear. The Tiger's weight is low down which means that handling and road-holding is excellent. It is just like a Bonneville but with one carb instead of two for better economy and reliability.
This 1978 export model with high bars and step seat has covered only 12,000 miles from new. It was fully restored 10 years ago and has been dry stored since. Just recommissioned for the road, it is said to ride beautifully and has an MOT until May 2008.
