Following the success of the Consul/Zephyr range of 1950, Ford applied the same engineering and styling principles to its new 100E range launched in 1953.
The two car range consisted of the two-door Anglia and the four-door Prefect, both versions being available in ‘standard’ and Deluxe versions. The 100E Prefect had a more up-market appearance than the lowly Anglia with chrome headlamp surrounds and a distinctive chrome grille. The door window surrounds were chrome finished and many Prefects were specified with two-tone paintwork.
Standard equipment included the 36bhp 1,172cc side-valve engine, three-speed gearbox and vacuum wipers, the Prefect selling well, eventually being replaced by the OHV and better equipped 107E Prefect in 1959.
Showing 94,000 miles on the clock, this 1956 Prefect has had just three former keepers according to its logbook. First registered in February of that year, it is described by the vendor as being nice and original and sports a rather fine ‘period’ roof-rack. It has recently seen some significant expenditure to the brakes, including new cylinders and shoes at the front while the rear cylinders have been stripped, cleaned and checked. A new gearbox mounting was also fitted along with a carburettor rebuild kit and four new tyres.
In very presentable, usable and original condition, this charming example is ready to enjoy straight away and looks like a perfect way to enter the world of classic motoring.
