History

THIS LOT WAS WITHDRAWN

MGB's are still such a relatively common sight on Britain's roads that it is sometimes easy to forget just what delightful little cars they are. Beautifully styled, easy to maintain and more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic, they are in many ways the perfect classic car – particularly in early roadster guise as you see here.

Launched in 1962 to replace the MGA which had done wonders for the reputation of the marque and sold in previously unheard-of numbers, the MGB was also an immediate success. Powered by an enlarged 1,789cc version of the BMC 'B' series engine with pushrod operated overhead-valves, it developed a useful 94bhp and produced bags of torque at very low revs. The body, which was built up in box sections on a two-part floorplan, provided comfortable accommodation for two, with a snug hood and wind-up windows at last.

This left-hand drive MGB Roadster was supplied new to California in 1966. It has covered less than 10,000 miles since a full refurbishment by Phoecle Engineering at a cost of some £15,000. This included a high quality respray in Midnight Blue, but all the panels are said to be original. A new mohair hood was also fitted. It has the desirable options of wire wheels and an overdrive gearbox. Said to drive beautifully, it has a long MOT and tax and would be perfect for that second home abroad!
