The second of our Swift P-Types in the sale today, this fabric bodied saloon has been languishing in its barn for the last 40 years.
Offering well above average performance in their class, Swifts were popular cars in the late Vintage period. Sadly, they were labour-intensive to produce, the ash-framed fabric-covered coachwork and low volume production soon taking its toll on the business. The final Swift rolled out of the factory in 1931, some four years after this car was built, the company failing to compete with the main-stream manufacturers.
Acquired by its owner from a friend sometime in the 1970s, it is believed complete, with a full dashboard of instruments although one front wing and a sidelight have gone astray. An interesting restoration project, it will require someone with good woodworking skills to reassemble the fabric covered bodywork.
Offered without any paperwork, a check on the DVLA computer reveals that the Coventry number WK 3961 is no longer recorded although the chassis plate is still in place on the bulkhead which should assist in getting the number back on the car when it is restored. It is being sold at no reserve so the highest bidder on the day buys the car.
