Our vendor bought this little gem while living in France and began a light restoration using local expertise before a change of plans saw him returning to the UK. The 2CV came, too.
The car was entrusted to leading 2CV Specialist Sparrow Automotive, who finished the job and turned the car into the beauty you see before you. The car has received a new chassis, floors and bulkhead and replacement suicide doors and was painted inside and out in Citröen Rose Grey. To complement the bodywork a new sunroof was added, along with new rubber mats and those rather chic red hammock seats.
The 425cc engine is standard, apart from a 123 electronic ignition system, but goes better than might be expected and our resident hot-rodder was amazed by the car’s performance around town. The Traffi-Clutch (a centrifugally operated free-wheel) had him a little bamboozled to begin with but quickly proved its worth in stop-go driving.
The vendor wanted the car to be useable and reliable and to this end it received a new six-volt battery, re-wound dynamo, battery isolator switch and new rear light units. The underside and box sections were all treated with waxoil. The car also had five new Michelin X-style tyres fitted and has an MOT to July 2019.
This is a very well-turned-out example of Citröen’s quirky little people’s car, nicely finished and always capable of getting you to your destination even if it involves traversing a ploughed field. Economical and hugely practical, this is a car that will put a smile on your face every time you drive it.
