Built in June 1969 and despatched to The Bristol Motor Company the following month, this Snowberry White Cooper was first registered in September the same year.
The car is a 1,275cc Mk2 Cooper S and although we don't know much of its history, we can tell you that it has been prepared for historic rally/regularity events and – ahem –‘ fast road use’.
The engine was been rebuilt by specialists Southam Mini Metro Centre and a full spec sheet accompanies the car, but, briefly it has: Omega 1,293cc pistons, cross-drilled EN40B crankshaft, Swiftune SW5 billet cam, fast road 12G940 cylinder head, forged rockers etc etc. The gearbox has also been uprated, with a straight-cut close ratio kit, MiniSpares diff assembly and 3.4:1 crown wheel and pinon.
The engine has been rated at 100bhp. at the flywheel and has done only around 2,500 miles since being built.
The car has been on a number of Mini Cooper Club “raids” to Ireland and the Alps over the last few years and has only recently returned from this year’s alpine foray and is expected to have a fresh MOT in time for the auction.
It’s good to see a Cooper S looking like it should and fitted with Dunlop-style 10” wheels. The car is in outstanding condition and ready to go - Ireland, the Alps, over the rooftops of Turin - just about anywhere in fact.
